The Williams (N.D.) County Planning and Zoning Commission recommended on a 7-0 vote approval of temporary housing for work on a proposed RV park Tuesday (April 26), the Williston Herald reported.
Developers Lee Stokke and Tom Johnson of Fort Pierre, S.D., are working on bringing an RV park for 180 units online. It would be located six miles north of Williston, along U.S. Highway 2 in Missouri Ridge Township.
“They are only applying for employee housing at this point,” Williams County Planning and Zoning Administrator Jill Edson said.
The workers would stay in four campers at the proposed RV park site to do preliminary work on the site in advance of possible park approval.
Edson added that a zone change for the proposed RV park is on the June commission meeting agenda. She added that nearby residents’ main concerns were the number of units, water and sewer and a preference for residential properties rather than RVs.
Stokke told the commission that each site would have water, sewer and electric as well as meeting county specifications for an RV park.
He added that no skid units, shacks or semi trucks would be allowed on the future RV park site.
Commissioner Dan Kalil said an RV park is needed in the county.
“Our county parks are maxed out and the state park won’t allow people in unless they’re there during the day,” Kalil said.
Kalil also said any work done in advance is at the developer’s own risk if the housing were approved. He said the County Commission may ultimately decide not to approve the RV park.
