KOAWant a side of glamping with your sports resort?

As if there weren’t plenty of bells and whistles already attached to Indiana’s massive $75 million Catalyst Lifestyles Sport Resort, developers now are detailing a Kampgrounds of America (KOA) campground that will focus on glamorous camping, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Better known as glamping, the site will cater to people looking to enjoy outdoor adventures with a bit more luxury than pitching a tent on hard ground.

Think Wi-Fi access and restrooms with showers.

In his letter of intent to Catalyst, KOA’s CEO and President Pat Hittmeier said that “given the ‘Wow!’ and fun factors of the many sport(s) resort amenities, there is little doubt that the KOA at Sport Resort will establish a new industry standard.”

Catalyst Lifestyles Sport Resort, a 170-acre site located in Portage north of I-94 and about 40 miles southeast of Chicago, will feature huge domes for indoor football and baseball, as well as ice hockey, basketball and soccer.

There will also be an indoor drive-in movie theater, an indoor water park and a 150-room hotel.

As the complex sets to break ground April 5 at 1 p.m., developer Tony Czapla has revealed more details, including a self-propelled monorail system and a portion of the massive complex called Wake Up Dunes!

Included in Wake Up Dunes! is a cable wakeboard park, a 15-acre lake (the centerpiece of the glamping site) and two aerial adventure towers.

One tower will be used primarily for climbing adventures. The second will be used to stage the zip lines and free fall or bungee jumps, Czapla said.

The first phase of the resort, which breaks ground next week, will include the glamping site, Wake Up Dunes! and the main dome of the complex.
