A Newport (Tenn.) small business owner is searching for answers after flash flooding devastated her property last month, and she says she’s still waiting for help, according to WATE.
Karen Chenaille, the owner of Stargazer Farm Glamping, estimates flooding left behind more than $1 million in losses. Chenaille began building the glamping resort in 2024 and opened it just last year. One day, she received a call about flash flooding, which changed everything for the future of the business.
“I cried. It was very, very emotional at first; it was basically 18 months of a dream just completely washed away,” said Chenaille.
Glamping tents were ripped from their foundations, multiple buildings suffered extensive water damage and major equipment was destroyed.
“We originally had 13 glamping structures on the property, plus a base camp. We also had what we call the tiny house and those were two Airbnbs, top and bottom, and the bottom unit has since been destroyed. We had a couple of people living permanently on site in an RV. Their RV is completely gone. It was totaled. Both of their vehicles were totaled. They had the misfortune of being here on the morning of the actual flood itself,” Chenaille added.
