If you plan to go camping on the May long weekend, take note: As of Feb. 21, all sites at Saskatoon Island and Young’s Point in Alberta can be reserved up to 90 days in advance, the Daily Herald-Tribune reported.

That means you’d better make a reservation in February if you want a spot for the May long weekend, said Margot Hervieux, Environment and Parks manager for the Northwest region.

“In the past about a third of the sites at both of those parks were available on a first-come, first-served basis, so you would show up on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the May long weekend and you would have your site. Now you don’t need to go to all that trouble of being there days ahead, but you probably need to be reserving in February.”

Some of the sites have already been reservable for the last four or five years, she said. People can make a reservation via the Internet at reserve.albertaparks.ca or by phone at 877-537-2757.

All larger provincial parks are now on the reservation system, Hervieux said.
