The spring meeting of the Campground Association Management Professionals (CAMP) was held recently at the Elizabethtown/Hershey Kampgrounds of America (KOA) Holiday in Elizabethtown, Pa.
According to a press release, CAMP is the nation’s only association specifically designed for campground association management executives.
“The purpose of the meeting is to get together and talk about the pertinent issues facing each of our state associations,” said President Beverly Gruber, executive director of the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA) and also president of CAMP. “We strive to share ideas that help us improve and streamline our associations, as well as stay on top of the latest trends. We typically have the same issues and we try to discuss solutions we’ve come across.”
The educational side of the meeting included a series of information-packed seminars. On the first day, Amy Wirtz, founder of Ohio-based Family and Business Success, discussed board of director transitions, while attorney Mark Hazelbaker of Wisconsin, covered legal situations common in campgrounds and how to address them.
Podcaster and blogger Janine Petit talked about “The Girl Camper Movement” and what campgrounds can do to get on board with this trend. Lobbyists Caleb Wright and Katie Conter did a presentation on using current technology to help procure sponsors.
In addition to the CAMP business meeting, day two included presentations by several CAMP members Joann DelVescio of the New Jersey Campground Owners Association (NJCOA); Lori Severson of the Wisconsin Association of Campground Owners (WACO); Michael Moore of the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO); Don Bennett of the Campground Owners of New York (CONY); and Jason Vaughan, past president of PCOA and a member of their marketing committee.
The two-day meeting included a tour of the Harrisburg/Hershey area and a visit to Hershey’s Chocolate World in a shuttle provided by Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA).
“Hosts Karl and Linda Schmidt, and their daughter Stephanie, as well as the KOA staff, were very welcoming and did a great job,” said Gruber.
In addition to Gruber, CAMP’s executive committee includes Vice President Joann DelVescio, Treasurer Meghan Lawton of CONY; Secretary Lori Severson and Past President Michael Moore.
