AutoCamp announced Wednesday (Oct. 2) its latest project, hot on the heels of opening AutoCamp Yosemite in April 2019, according to Forbes.
The luxury glamping chain sets its sights on New England, announcing plans to open AutoCamp Cape Cod in late 2020. The property will have more than 100 units, including glamping tents, tiny houses and the brand’s iconic Airstream trailers, all of which are custom-designed for AutoCamp.
The brand currently operates resorts in Mariposa, Russian River, and Santa Barbara, all in California. The new Cape Cod location will be the brand’s first expansion outside of the West Coast. The resort will be approximately 90 minutes by car from Boston, Mass., and 3-and-a-half hours from New York City, N.Y.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring the unique AutoCamp experience to the Cape Cod community,” said Brad Guidi, a partner at Blue Flag Development, one of AutoCamp’s two business partners. The other is real estate development company Whitman Peterson.
While the brand has a stated goal of delivering unique and destination-specific experiences, the Cape Cod location will include many of the brand’s signature offerings. The most well-known of those are their custom 31-foot-long Airstream trailers, which are designed explicitly for AutoCamp.
Though the California trailer company first made its mark on travel in the 1930s, the AutoCamp trailers are all modern. Amenities across all AutoCamp trailers include roomy bathrooms with local spa products, heating and air conditioning, flat-screen TVs and bluetooth connectivity, and private fire pits and cooking tools to make campfire dinners easy for guests. Rates will start around $200 a night in the off-season, though the glamping tents will be more affordable. Those include many of the same amenities as the trailers and tiny houses, but will use shared restrooms located in the resort’s clubhouse.
New York-based architects Workshop/APD will design the Cape Cod AutoCamp clubhouse, expected to be just over 8,000 square feet. The mid-century modern facility will serve as the resort’s reception desk, gift shop and meeting space. In keeping to the social spirit of the hotel, it will also include communal facilities for socializing and dining.
Indoor and outdoor fireplaces and firepits will be available to all guests, as will complimentary bicycle rentals for exploring the nearby resort towns and beaches. The company expects to offer weekly yoga classes, live outdoor music and beer and cider tastings.
