Last week’s unseasonably cold arctic blast caused trouble for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management when vandalism occurred at the Pink House Recreation Site along the Clearwater River near Orofino, Idaho, on Highway 12, Boise Weekly reported.
According to a BLM news release, vandals unplugged the electrical heat tape at the campground’s RV sites, causing pipes to burst and costly damage to waterlines. The site has 15 RV hook-ups with water, electricity and sewer.
The BLM said this isn’t the first act of vandalism at the site this year, either. A few months ago, the electrical panel at the group shelter was ripped open, traffic signs at the busy recreation area were painted over, and human feces were smeared throughout the men’s restroom.
The news release makes it clear the BLM is getting pretty tired of it.
“When vandalism occurs at public recreation sites, it is not only disappointing but also costly to everyone,” the release read. “Funds that could have been used to upgrade facilities for the public’s benefit have to be redirected in order to offset the cost of repairing the damage vandals have caused.”
