Screen Shot 2015-05-26 at 11.53.02 AMFor the past nine years, the current owners, Gary Willis and Suzy Beaird, have built and managed the Brookeland/Lake Sam Rayburn Kampgrounds of America (KOA) in Brookeland, Texas.

Their KOA is located on the shores of Lake Sam Rayburn in East Texas, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake and the largest lake in the state of Texas.

The Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) awarded Brookeland/Lake Sam Rayburn KOA the Brochure of the Year Award for the Year of 2015.

“We were thrilled to receive this award, and are hoping to win others in the future, as our campground has large plans for a growth schedule to begin this year,” Beaird said.

Located in the Piney Woods area of East Texas, the Brookeland/Lake Sam Rayburn KOA has more than 100 RV sites with full service, full-service tenting sites, rustic tenting sites and 20 lodges, cottages, and cabins with different decorative themes for the interiors. They vary from Western, tropical, Montana, Alaska, U.S.A., Robin Hood, Harley-Davidson and even Texas themes.

Some of the cabins were built from the ground up, while others are full log cabins produced by Prairie Kraft Specialties of Billings, Mont.

The park also has 250 acres of scenic ATV and horseback riding and walking trails, covered horse stalls, canoes, paddle boats and kayak rentals. The swimming pool is open year ’round, there are playgrounds for children and satellite TV with more than 200 channels in all cabins. Free Wi-Fi is available in all parts of the campground.

“When creating the brochure this year, we put all our effort into showing the many attributes of the campground. We are so glad it came through to the public,” Beaird said.

Beaird doesn’t rely exclusively on the brochure to promote the park. She also uses the website at www.rvlake.com, the KOA website at www.koa.com and she does a lot of TV advertising in the market area.
