A summer’s worth of free camping is in store for volunteers willing to spend their summer as a camp host in Oregon’s Umatilla National Forest.

Camp hosts must provide their own trailer, camper or motorhome but will be provided a campsite, propane, a food allowance and reimbursement of mileage associated with camp host activities, according to the East Oregonian.

Hosts that are “friendly, flexible and responsible” are needed for Jubilee Lake, Woodward and Bull Prairie campgrounds. Individuals or couples can apply. Those chosen will greet campers, provide information, keep an eye on the campground, clean and maintain restrooms, restock supplies and perform minor maintenance.

Jubilee Lake Campground is 12 miles northeast of Tollgate, featuring 53 campsites, four picnic areas and 2.8 miles of trails all situated around a lake. Woodward Campground is located off Highway 204 at Tollgate, featuring 14 campsites, four picnic areas and two smaller campgrounds nearby that camp hosts will also be responsible for.

Camp hosts are on site at both areas from early July through mid to late September. Call Celina Morena at 509-522-6277 for more information.
