New this year, from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 30) and Friday, there will be a haunted hike starting in the Spearfish (S.D.) City Campground. The rec center has hosted a haunted house in the past, but this hike provides two options: A “less-spooky,” family-friendly, shorter hike for $2, and a 1.5-mile spooky hike for those who seek the thrill factor from a good scare, the Black Hills Pioneer reported.

Chris Harwood, community activities coordinator for Spearfish, said that local students are helping with the haunted hike, and both options will utilize portions of the rec path around the campground. All of the proceeds from the hike go to a scholarship program for youth and family rec center memberships and programs.
