Pine Acres Family Camping Resort, a family owned operation in Oakham, Mass., recently raised $500 for the Worcester chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
On Oct. 11, Pine Acres staged a haunted house for its Columbus Day weekend guests. For a small donation, visitors were guided through a series of haunted rooms and a graveyard scene, run entirely by volunteers. Approximately 250 guests made there way through the haunted house. Each year, Pine Acres chooses a local charity or organization to donate the proceeds of this event. Last year, $1,000 was given to the Oakham Town Common Restoration Committee toward the building of a town gazebo.
“We feel it is important to give back to our communities” said Denise Packard treasurer of Pine Acres Resort. “We regularly host blood drives, and often ask for a food bank donation to participate in our activities. Our haunted house enables our staff and our guests to have some fun and feel good about it“. Pine Acres is already looking ahead to next year’s events, where they hope they can raise significant money for local charities in their community.
Pine Acres Resort is located on Lake Dean in Oakham. It was started in 1960 by F. Kim and Grace Packard and is now operated by the second generation of the Packard family. Pine Acres offers full camping resort amenities in a peaceful country setting.
