A new kind of gated community is on the way near a Brunswick County (North Carolina) beach town, according to StarNewsOnline.
Just outside of Holden Beach is the soon-to-be opening of a new luxury resort community that blends motorcoach sites with small house-like structures, called casitas. The lakeside RV resort will allow residents to live partly in an RV and partly in the casita year-round.
Plans for the resort, named Carolina Coastal Motorcoach Resort, include about 90 motorcoach lots on the former rock quarry at 551 Cedar Grove Road SW in Supply. The lots surround a 17-acre crystal-clear lake. A clubhouse, pool and pickleball courts are also on the site.
The Brunswick County Planning Board in July 2024 approved a text amendment to the county’s unified development ordinance to allow the construction of casitas to be built as an accessory use on RV lots in outdoor RV resorts. Previously, the county’s ordinances allowed site-built or modular cabins to be built on some lots within an outdoor RV resort, but not on the same lot as an RV or travel trailer.
Resort co-owner Barry Poole was the developer who brought the text amendment proposal to the county. He and his family have been involved in the motorcoach industry for more than two decades and are now working to open a new development in Brunswick.
This will be Poole’s fifth development in the motorcoach industry, having developed similar communities in Florida, Virginia and the North Carolina mountains.
The resort hopes to open in September, only a few months longer than its original timeframe of Spring 2026
