After more than three hours of discussion, including 19 public commenters, Chaffee County (Colorado) commissioners denied a conditional permit use for a campground in the Pine Creek area during their June 9 meeting, according to The Mountain Mail.
The decision was unanimous. Every public commenter, both in person and virtually, opposed the permit for one reason or many.
The applicant, Ramble Outdoors, is a Golden-based company with two campgrounds in Colorado, one near Alamosa and one near Cortez. Ramble leases the land from the Colorado State Land Board. The proposal included 36 campsites on 24 acres.
