Eleven Mile Canyon and Happy Meadows Campground near Colorado Springs, Colo., have been closed until further notice due to flooding, according to a Forest Service release that was reported by The Gazette.

The levels are increasing because Denver Water is releasing water into the reservoir, which is part of its water system.

The closing and evacuation will effect about 12 Pike National Forest campgrounds and picnic areas; water is expected to flow over Forest Service Road 96 later Tuesday, according to the release.

The public also is advised to stay away from the South Platte River, due to risks associated with high water levels.
