Construction of a campground promising the comforts of a luxury hotel while campers relax under the CapeCod’s starry night sky is starting to move forward on Palmer Avenue in Falmouth, Mass., according to the Cape Cod Times.
The 13-acre site has been used for traditional family camping for nearly 100 years, but the operation opening there in just under a year will elevate the art of outdoor living to “glamping,” a more exclusive and glamorous form of camping designed predominantly for adults.
The property, previously known as the Sippewissett Campground & Cabins, is now owned by Boston-based Blue Flag Development.
AutoCamp, a San Francisco-based outdoor hospitality company with California locations in Santa Barbara, on the Russian River and near Yosemite National Park, will be the camp’s operator. The Falmouth location, called AutoCamp Cape Cod, is the company’s first venture on the East Coast.
Those driving past the Palmer Avenue site will notice some heavy equipment has arrived.
“In terms of construction activities, site work and foundation building for the new clubhouse are currently underway,” said Ryan Miller, chief branding officer for AutoCamp. “We are currently on track for opening our doors in fall 2020.”
When completed, the grounds will offer 108 campsites. Guests can stay in one of the 10 canvas tents or 98 Airstream rental trailers.
The Airstreams will feature kitchens, sitting areas, queen-size beds with luxurious linens and heated blankets, flat-screen televisions, sound systems and spa-type bathrooms. They also will be equipped with air conditioning and electric heat.
Tents will offer queen-size beds, lighting, electrical outlets, heated blankets and other amenities, including outdoor lounge areas with grills and fire pits.
