A plan to develop wetlands near Cheboygan, Mich.’s Duncan Bay into a seasonal park for recreational vehicles faces one of its final hurdles Thursday (March 4), according to the Cheboygan Daily Tribune.
The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host a public hearing for Cheboygan Shores, a 103-site development for RVs which would impact nearly four acres of wetland off Duncan Avenue, just east of Duncan Bay.
The Cheboygan City Council agreed in June 2009 to rezone the land from Residential to Planned Unit Development for Cheboygan Waterfront LLC and developer Todd Wyett of Southfield, but made final approval contingent upon DEQ review and acceptance.
Wyett’s plans call for use of retention ponds to handle some of the stormwater runoff, as well as developing other wetlands and vegetation nearby.
The bay is situated on Lake Huron, less than 20 miles south of the Straits of Mackinac.
