The owners of the Beaver Brook Golf Course in Williamsburg, Mass., are seeking permission to put a campground of up to 50 sites on the property, a move that is generating opposition from some town residents, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
Beaver Brook’s owners Chris and Rosana Duval have applied for a special permit with the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals under the name Equinox Partners LLC.
The seasonal campground would be located at multiple locations on the same property as the golf course at 183 Main Road, and be provided water and electricity part of the year, according to the application with the ZBA. The application also said that, should the permit be approved, Equinox Partners would surrender a separate special permit for a self-storage facility on the property.
Chris Duval declined to comment when reached by phone on Monday.
The ZBA will take up the application at its Tuesday (Aug. 23) meeting, which is set to take place at the Town Offices at 5 p.m. The campground proposal is set to be taken up at 5:30 p.m.
A change.org online petition against the campground idea, started by nearby resident Kyle Rodd, has already generated more than 115 signatures as of Monday afternoon.
“No other local campground is located on as busy a roadway or in such close proximity to neighbors: this construction would take place on private property, but its impacts would ripple outwards well beyond the property line,” reads part of the petition.
