 Behind continued strength in travel trailer sales, year-over-year towable retail registrations grew 8.1% in February while showing a 7.9% gain for the first two months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Results by category showed:

  • Sales for the high-volume travel trailer segment increased 12.1% for the month and 10.4% year-to-date.
  • Fifth-wheel registrations edged up 0.6% in February and 2.2% for the first two months.
  • Folding camping trailer sales declined 15.2% for the month and 9.9% year-to-date.
  • Park model RV sales retreated 19.6% for February but gained 38.8% for the first two months.

Forest River Inc. was the towable sales leader through February with a 36.3% share of the market, ahead of Thor Industries Inc. owning a 34.3% share and Jayco Inc. with a 13.1% share.

By segment, Forest River was No. 1 in travel trailers for the two months with a 38.6% market share, followed by Thor (31.7%) and Jayco (14.2%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 46% market share followed by Forest River (28.7%), Jayco (10.4%) and Grand Design RV Co. (8.3%).

In folding camping trailers, Forest River led for the first two months with a 62% market share, followed by Jayco (14.7%) and Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. (12.2%). Fleetwoood Homes Inc. led the park model segment with a 30.8% market share, followed by  Skyline Corp. (10%) and Champion Home Builders (7.9%).
