The city has approved construction of a KOA on 56 acres on the east side of Jenkins Road, between Edwards and Okeechobee roads.
Work is expected to start in February and is to be completed in three phases, said Brian Bacher, a franchisee of the new KOA project. It should open by the end of next year, he said.
The campground will be accessible from Jenkins and Edwards roads. Bacher’s company will have to pay for building a southbound turn-lane into the campground from Jenkins.
The first phase includes building 116 lots, a retention lake, patio, pool, parking and a 6,000-square-foot administration building, according to city planning records.
