The Santa Rosa County (Fla.) Commission on Thursday (Oct. 25) unanimously rejected a requested lease amendment that would have allowed development of a hotel, RV park and other facilities on Navarre Beach, according to The Northwest Florida Daily News.
The request came from Shoreline Developers of Florida LLC, of Pensacola. The company’s conceptual plan for its proposed Navarre Beach Marina & Resort included development of a marina, marina store-restaurant, swimming pool, a hotel with another restaurant, an RV park, a kayak and paddle board rental area and other amenities.
The proposed development site encompasses about 13.25 acres at the east end of Gulf Boulevard and in the middle of Navarre Beach Marine Park, with frontage along Santa Rosa Sound.
According to its current land lease with the county, Shoreline Developers already has the right to build a marina, a building to accommodate dry storage of boats, an engine and hull repair shop, fueling locations, showers, a restaurant and other types of structures.
Working on behalf of Shoreline Developers, NOBC LLC of Miramar Beach sought the lease amendment in hopes of developing a hotel, RV park and other facilities.
“The question before you tonight is not whether this parcel will be developed, but how it will be developed,” Will Dunaway, representing NOBC, told the commission.
