The road leading to the Cosby Campground and Picnic Area in Great Smoky Mountains National Park is closed because of flash flooding, a park spokeswoman told television station WBIR.

Rangers are weighing whether they should evacuate the campground, Dana Soehn said.

Storms and heavy rain moved through the area Monday (June 22).

“The road near the picnic area has been undercut, reducing safe travel to one lane. We do not have any reports of injuries from the campground or picnic area,” Soehn said.

Also, the spokeswoman said it’s their understanding a park trail crew and a couple of backpackers are stranded across the creek along the Lower Mount Cammerer Trail. They are all right, however, she said.
