b'EDITORS NOTES BY BEN QUIGGLEEven More Growth on the HorizonThe industry moves into 2023 on the heels of two very solid years of growth, so when considering current economic conditions, one might imagine a slowdown may occur. That doesnt appear to be the case for the outdoor hospitalityindustry.During conferences this past fall, Woodalls Campground Magazine (WCM) heard the word resilient quite often when chatting about the industrys outlook. Amid higher gas prices, increasing prices on con-sumer goods and other factors, many in the outdoor hospitality sector feel that new owners of RVs will still want to use their unitseven if they stick a little closer to home. The continued growth in new developments and expansion projects is highlighting this resiliency as many investors and developers anticipate a steady stream of campers over the next several years and well into the future.Jeff Crider, one of WCMs longtime contributors, recently compiled data for WCM that demonstrates the significant growth in new campsite development across the U.S. He pro-jected that between 2022 and 2024 more than 11,000 new campsites were expected to be built. That is after gathering information on more than 30 new development projectsand that doesnt even include the 19 projects that Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) is currently pushing through its pipeline. Those campsites would join the estimated 1,520,000 campsites in 12,290 privately owned and operated campgrounds, RV parks and resorts already in operation across the U.S. as of 2022, according to a Campground Industry Market Analysis commissioned by the RV In-dustry Association (RVIA). KOA noted at the end of December that many campers have made spending more time outdoors part of their resolutions for 2023.Dramatically outpacing other camping resolutions, 41% of campers hope to take more camping trips next year. Comparatively, 29% resolve to take more extended trips, regardless of the mode of travel, while a similar proportion, 28%, just want to get outdoors more often, notes the company.Camping continues to be a cost-effective way to travel and enjoy time as a family, and that bodes well for the industry as economic conditions may continue to force families to tighten their budgets. While the industry faces a number of challenges from supply chain issues to finding enough employees and more, it also has been blessed to see significant growth that has al-lowed it to expand and work to meet the demand of todays campers and tackle its chal-lenges.The new year has barely started but many are excited to see how the industry continues to grow and adapt to this post-pandemic world. It has been an interesting ride so far and the exciting part is that there is still more to come.WCM www.woodallscm.com GG M E D I A & Vol. 54 No. 2 February 2023GROUP LLCSherman Goldenberg, PublisherTrina Nissley, Art Director sgoldenberg@rvbusiness.comtnissley@rvbusiness.com Office: (574) 457-3370 Mobile: (574) 457-6637ADVERTISING:Ben Quiggle, EditorAlly Kollat, Account bquiggle@rvbusiness.comExecutive, National Ad Sales Mobile: (574) 306-7781akollat@g-gmediagroup.com Office: (574) 266-7980 Rick Kessler, Managing Editor rkessler@rvbusiness.comWendy Thorne, Account (734) 777-6830Executive, National Ad Sales wthorne@g-gmediagroup.com Gary Gerard, Editorial DirectorOffice (574) 266-7980ggerard@rvbusiness.com (574) 528-1275 Scan toAlex Burkett, subscribeDigital Media Coordinatorto our daily aburkett@rvbusiness.comnews feedJeff Crider, Senior Editorand print campinginfosource@gmail.compublications(760) 469-5905 All general correspondence and circulation inquiries may be directed to thefollowing: Woodalls Campground Magazine, C/O G&G Media Group LLC, 223 South Main Street, Elkhart, IN 46516Email: rvbusiness@rvbusiness.comFax: (574) 266-7984Owners, managers or marketing directors of privately held U.S. campgrounds may receive a free subscription upon request to Woodalls Campground Magazineone free subscription per campground.
