Frequent visitors of the George Lane Campground in High River, Alberta, can rejoice after an announcement that the popular camping spot will reopen May 1 after being closed for nearly two years due to damage from the 2013 flood, High River Online reported.

While George Lane Park itself opened again last spring, the campground remained closed so the newly-seeded grass had time to regrow.

Ron Schmidt with the High River Lion’s Club, which runs the campground, says it’s a pretty big moment for High River, and campers from all over.

“We’ve already got people trying to get in,” he says. “We can’t book anybody till the 15th of April, but it’s a very successful campground. It’s been rebuilt, and it’s in magnificent shape. Our whole park is probably in better shape than it was before the flood, so we’re quite excited for the summer.”

With the park so close to the Highwood River, Schmidt says it was quite the long haul to repair the campground.
