After seeing the flooding at the Riverforest Park in Weedsport, N.Y., CNYcentral wanted to find out what exactly caused the problem. With neighbors claiming the lock system in Baldwinsville is to blame, the media organization reached out to the New York State Canal System to find out.

The owner of the campground says flooding like this happens every year. He also blames the Baldwinsville, Seneca and Cayuga lock systems for the rising water levels, saying they should be able to control how much water goes in and out.

Officials at the Canal System say the lock system doesn’t have anything to do with the flooding, it’s actually the control gates mixed in with the heavy rainfall that’s causing the issue.

The canal officials say they had the control gates open for the past two week and if they didn’t do that the flooding could have been much worse.
