Work is nearing completion on a campground at Polk County’s Coleman Landing at Shady Oaks park on Florida’s Lake Kissimmee, the Lakeland Ledger reported.
According to county officials, final inspection is coming soon and the tentative opening date is some time in March.
In August the county commission approved a $721,350 contract with Compton-Peachee Construction to develop a 54-space campground.
The 135-acre park opened in 2011 as a result of a cooperative agreement with the South Florida Water Management District, which agreed to spend $1 million on the initial development of the park, which included boat ramps, parking and picnic facilities and turn the property over to Polk County for operation.
The land is the former site of a private campground called Shady Oaks.
