Every year, the Family Motor Coach Association’s (FMCA) southeast rally floods the Brooksville Regional Airport near Tampa, Fla., with RVs.
The event creates a mini-city of close to 1,000 RV enthusiasts and has become an economic boon to Hernando County.
But is the party about to end?
After 15 years, the motorcoach host committee could move the event to another location after this year’s rally, scheduled for Feb. 6-10.
According to Bay News 9’s partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, attendance has been declining in recent years and the committee says it has to spend too much on tents and other accommodations due to a lack of permanent buildings.
Different events for the rally were once held in a hangar at the airport but that is no longer the case.
An official with the Volusia County Fair said the motorcoach group has approached his organization about hosting the event at the Volusia fairgrounds.
Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce president Pat Crowley said losing the event would have a noticeable impact on the economy.
