The U.S. Forest Service will again implement a vehicle cap for Lockett Meadow in Flagstaff, Ariz., during busy leaf-peeping weekends in October.
According to the Arizona Daily Sun, the 100 vehicles allowed into the area in 2017 is double the number allowed last year. The Forest Service arrived at that higher number after evaluating last year’s visitation use and cycle, said Brian Poturalski, recreation officer with the Flagstaff Ranger District.
Once that capacity has been reached, Forest Service personnel will implement a one-in-one-out policy, where one vehicle will be allowed in for every car that departs.
There are 17 campsites in Lockett Meadow that are on a first-come, first-served basis and campers will not be subject to the 100-vehicle restriction. There is a 14-day stay limit for those campsites.
