Girl Camper, one of the largest women’s camping communities in the United States, has surpassed 2,100 paid members less than a year after launching its membership program in October 2025, reflecting the growing demand among women over 40 for connection, adventure and experience-driven travel, according to a press release.
Founded on the belief that “there is no wrong way to camp like a girl,” group leaders say Girl Camper has evolved into a powerful lifestyle and media brand that connects women through camping, RV travel, outdoor adventure, education and friendship. The organization reaches its audience through in-person events, a digital magazine, a podcast, social media platforms, and online community spaces designed to help women feel confident getting outdoors.

“Our members aren’t just joining for camping tips,” said Girl Camper Vice President Lesa McDermott. “They’re joining because they’re looking for shared experiences, confidence and community. Women want meaningful adventures and people to experience them with.”
The rapid growth of the membership program aligns with broader travel trends among women over 50. According to JourneyWoman’s 2026 Women’s Travel Pulse Survey, 52% of women over 50 plan to travel as originally planned in 2026-2027 despite economic uncertainty, while 71% plan to travel internationally. The survey also found that nearly two in three women over 50 plan to participate in group travel experiences this year, demonstrating the increasing importance of connection and community in travel decisions.
Girl Camper members primarily consist of women over 40 with disposable income who are actively investing in travel, outdoor recreation, RVing, gear and experience-based lifestyles. Many members are solo travelers, empty nesters, retirees, remote workers and women entering new stages of life who are discovering camping and RV travel for the first time.
The organization hosts hundreds of events annually through its nationwide network of volunteer guides and local communities. Events range from beginner-friendly campouts and lunch meetups to kayaking trips, backpacking adventures, road rallies and RV travel experiences.
In addition to in-person events, Girl Camper continues to expand its digital footprint through:
- The Girl Camper Podcast
- The digital Girl Camper Magazine
- Educational and lifestyle video content
- Active Facebook communities and social media engagement
- Partnerships with leading brands, like Progressive Insurance, in the RV and outdoor industries
Girl Camper has also partnered with companies, including The Dyrt and RV Overnights, to provide additional membership benefits and resources that enhance the camping and RV travel experience for its members.
JourneyWoman’s survey also found that women over 50 are increasingly influenced by customer reviews, recommendations from other women and company values when making travel decisions. Those trends closely mirror Girl Camper’s community-based approach, where members often inspire and encourage one another to explore new destinations, try new camping styles and build confidence outdoors.
“Women are one of the fastest-growing segments in camping and RV travel,” McDermott said. “What we’re seeing is that community has become just as important as the destination itself. Women want authentic experiences, flexibility and friendships that extend beyond the campground.”
As the outdoor and RV industries continue evolving, Girl Camper’s growth demonstrates the increasing influence of women-led communities in shaping travel trends, outdoor participation and purchasing decisions.
