The Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile is the most comprehensive study of RV ownership ever conducted, providing deep insights and perspectives on the demographics and ownership habits of RV owners, former RV owners and RV intenders, according to a press release.

The study identified seven distinct clusters based on RV owners’ unique motivations, needs and habits. It also offers a breakdown of the different types of RVs and a study of which demographics tend to prefer different types of RVs, according to a News & Insights report by the RV Industry Association (RVIA).

Today we are looking at the owners of truck campers, which are owned by 3% of RVers. Young families are 36% of truck camper owners, while 52% are Millennials and Gen Zers. Twenty-eight percent are first-time owners.

Truck campers are used during 50% of owners’ vacation time. They are most often used often in summer (77%), followed by fall (43%), spring (32%), and winter (24%). 54% of truck camper owners prefer to have accommodations at state parks or recreation area campgrounds, while 41% prefer national park campgrounds and 35% stay at private campgrounds.

Alongside RV trips, 45% of truck camper owners also enjoy outdoor sports, while 43% go fishing and 22% engage in water recreational activities. Their top three reasons for RVing are spending time outdoors (13%), simply unwinding and relaxing (11%), and controlling their own itinerary (10%). Other outdoor activities they bring with them include bicycles (29%) and ATVs or other four-wheelers (11%).

In terms of demographics, 52% are between the ages of 18 – 54 while 48% are ages 55 and older. 46% of truck camper owners are female and 54% are male.
