During the National Governors Association (NGA) meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, there will be a new Outdoor Recreation Learning Network in partnership with governors and state outdoor recreation directors, accoriding to a press release.

This network will help governors and their staffs explore strategies to leverage their unique natural, cultural and historical resources and help promote economic, social and environmental benefits.

The outdoor recreation industry employed more than 4.5 million people in 2016, and generated in excess of $730 billion in total sales, accounting for 2.2% of the U.S. gross domestic product, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Seven governors, outdoor recreation leaders, representatives of REI co-op, the Outdoor Industry Association and the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and other supporters will attend the networking event. 

It is being held from  2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the Utah Natural History Museum . The Grand America Hotel, the venue of the NGA Summer Meeting is a backup option.

NGA plans to run a shuttle bus from The Grand America to the museum before the event.
