Dirt work has begun on the newest recreational vehicle park in Lufkin, Texas, which should be open in time for summer, The Lufkin Daily News reported.

David Overdorf, who plans to open the park, expects to complete the first phase and open for business before July. Phase one will include 33 RV spaces, plus two cabins.

Overdorf said he talked to his family about opening their own RV park when they realized there was not a high-end park in the area. Lufkin is a city of more than 30,000 in east Texas.

“We’ve been RVers for years and years and years,” Overdorf said. “There have been a number of times where we’d have done a weekend adventure if there was a really nice park nearby.”

The new park will be adjacent to Southern Stables Bed and Breakfast on Loop 287.

Though the park will be opened after phase one is completed, Overdor expects to begin phase two almost immediately thereafter,. When it’s completely finished, Overdorf said there should be about 125 RV spaces, plus a handful of cabins. In addition, he said the park will have a stocked fishing pond, a clubhouse with a rally room, a swimming pool and a separate bath house where visitors can do their laundry.

For now, he is focusing on finishing the dirt work and rough plans for the park. Then, once he receives a construction permit from the city of Lufkin, the rest of phase one will begin.

“I think the community needs a nice, resort-type park,” Overdorf said. “The feedback we’ve gotten so far has been good.”
