Not all the campground news out of California is about cutbacks.

Napa Valley Exposition wants to add nine spaces to its recreation vehicle park, saying it would be a money-maker, according to the Napa Valley Register.

Over the past two months, the 21-space park has been at 98% occupancy, Expo CEO Joe Anderson told fair directors Tuesday (Oct. 27).

Since the Expo redid the RV park two years ago, making it more of an all-weather facility, revenues have been higher than expected, he said.

The Expo will apply for an $118,000 state grant and ask two support groups, Friends of Napa Valley Exposition and the Junior Livestock Auction Committee, for contributions.

The additional spaces would be built along Silverado Trail, east of the current facility. At fair time, these nine spaces could handle up to 22 more 4-H families by doubling and tripling parking, Anderson said.

If things went well, the expansion could occur in 2010, he said.

Editor’s Note: Nestled in the heart of downtown Napa, Calif., the Napa Valley Exposition is home to the annual Napa Town & Country Fair, Napa Fermentation Supplies and a year-round, state of the art Bingo Emporium. Additionally, the Expo acts as the community center and gathering place in the Valley, hosting a variety of trade shows, rodeos, dinners, dances, fundraisers, concerts, weddings and receptions, just to name a few. With more than a quarter of a million annual visitors, the Expo features more than 31,000 square feet of prime showroom space, located in four buildings, many equipped with commercial kitchens, plus plenty of outdoor exhibit space all in the heart of Wine Country. The RV park is adjacent to the Expo.
