The owners of the marina and Lazy Days South restaurant on 11th Street in Marathon, Fla., are looking to add another use to that block, as reported by Keysnet.com
According to city records, the ownership group has demolished six trailers in hopes of opening a high-end, eight-unit RV park on a .92-acre lot adjacent to the restaurant.
Co-owner Dennis Zecca didn’t return calls for comment Tuesday, but city records say the owners have repaired the seawall and installed fencing on the lot. They also built a 6,247-square-foot pool and deck area and a 1,050-square-foot bathroom facility.
“They’ve done a lot of work bringing it up to speed,” city Planning Director George Garrett said.
The Planning Commission approved a conditional use for the project at its Dec. 12 meeting and Garrett said it’s slated to go before the City Council on Jan. 10.
Garrett said Zecca and his partners purchased the Flamingo Inn on Grassy Key and transferred eight of its 12 transient building rights to the 11th Street site. The city has a moratorium in place on new hotel room allocations.
“The hotel will turn into month-to-month rentals, essentially work force housing,” Garrett said, adding the group is also working on that conversion.
