New member recruitment and overhaul of the website are the primary goals of the Iowa Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (Iowa ARVC) for the coming year, reports Chip Smith, association president.

Iowa ARVC held its annual conference March 29 at Crossroads RV Park in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and discussed these two key issues.

Smith reported that 10 of the association’s 24 member parks attended the one-day event, which is an increase from past years. But Iowa ARVC penetration in the state’s 80 privately owned RV parks and campgrounds is disappointing, he noted, and the association would like to increase its membership. Members will resume the recruitment task this year.

Chris Rademacher of the West Des Moins KOA is heading up the website overhaul project, which will be done by VistaWorks. The Buena Vista, Colo.-based firm has a 2 ½-month window to complete the project. Iowa ARVC’s website is www.gocampingiowa.org.

Gus Steiner, a multi-park owner from Wisconsin, was the guest speaker. He explained how campground owners can drive campers to their parks if they offer “the right stuff.”

Iowa ARVC will hold its fall meeting Oct. 24-25 at the Newton KOA.
