Storm Lake, Iowa, will seek a Land and Water Conservation Grant from the federal government to develop the marina area at Casino Beach with a campground and cabins, the Storm Lake Pilot Tribune reported.

The city council approved an agreement with local engineering firm ISG last week to prepare plans for the site at a cost of $9,100, as the grant application deadline — March 15 — is rapidly approaching.

Competition for the grants is intense, but if it is received it would cover 50% of the cost for the recreation area development.

In the proposal, ISG noted, “In today’s busy world, chances to get out and connect with nature are a welcomed retreat for family and friends. The Storm Lake Marina area, its surrounding shores and natural landscapes, offer a perfect setting for Storm Lake area residents and visitors alike to enjoy the outdoors in a fun, convenient location.”

The proposal mentions a campground to be developed adjacent to the marina with 15-20 RV sites with lake views, a restroom and bathhouse, 10-15 fishing cottages and possibly 10-15 primitive tent sites, to be created in three phases.
