Officials from Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) gathered in Fredericksburg, Texas, on Saturday (Nov. 16) to celebrate the groundbreaking of a brand new park, the Fredericksburg KOA Resort.
The resort will be managed by KOA and it wasn’t hard to see the excitement on people’s faces as they spoke about everything they have planned for the new park.
It will be located right off Texas Highway 16, just north of Fredericksburg and include 291 sites, with almost 50 sites featuring the KOA Patio design and some with Paw Pens. There will also be several cabins, Conestoga Wagons and other accommodation units at the park, including a few custom-built cabins to match a unique rustic cabin already on-site.
Other amenities at the park will include a pool, a lazy river, activity rentals, nature trails and more.
“This is a big deal for our company,” said Toby O’Rourke, president and CEO of KOA. “This is really our first true greenfield development project and it’s pretty remarkable that we’re a part of that and that we are creating history for the company.”
O’Rourke also highlighted the fact that the company is excited about re-entering the Fredericksburg market. The company used to have a franchised location in the area, but it switched to being an independent park several years ago.
“This is a very special community, as those who live here are lucky enough to know,” she noted. “Fredericksburg has that old-fashioned German charm with beautiful greeneries and beautiful landscapes. We are happy to welcome KOA campers and their peers here to experience all that Fredericksburg has to offer.”
Project leader Eric Rathburn, KOA’s vice president of real estate development, noted that the company was excited to be working with so many local partners on the project.
“This is a really difficult time to build due to increasing costs and the fact that we are able to pull off a project like this is just a testament to our team,” he explained. “This is a project that we can all be proud of.”
The park is expected to be completed in early 2026.
