Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) opened Terramor, a glamping resort located in Bar Harbor, Maine, on Aug. 1.
Whitney Scott, KOA’s vice president of marketing, told WOODALLSCM.com (WCM) that opening weekend went well and that the park has received some positive feedback.
“The most common feedback is in regards to how beautiful the property and facilities are and how friendly and servicing the staff is,” she explained. “We are really proud of how Gretchen Chauncey, the general manager of Terramor, has taken outdoor hospitality, a cornerstone of KOA, and made it shine through at Terramor as well.”
Terramor was at 90% occupancy for opening weekend, noted Scott, with over 150 guests at the resort. Terramor employs a mix of 25 seasonal and full-time employees.
The park was set to open in June but was delayed due to construction issues related to the current COVID-19 crisis.
“We had initially planned a grand opening with festivities, but because of COVID, we wanted to be cautious of large gatherings on the property to ensure social distancing,” Scott said. “We are looking to do something special in 2021. Just being able to open was special for us. Seeing smiling faces around crackling fires definitely had us celebrating.”
Built on the site of a former KOA park, the 60-acre property features 64 luxury canvas tents set among the trees and oriented around a lodge featuring a bar and restaurant, store and equipment rentals. The property will also feature a nature-inspired pool and outdoor recreation areas where guests can relax and socialize.
“Terramor is really set up to attract a hotel guest versus a camper,” Scott noted. “Our research shows there are guests who like the idea of glamping on a campground, and guests that want an accommodations only resort. Terramor meets the latter’s needs.”
The resort will operate as a seasonal destination and plans to close for the year on Oct. 15.
Prices on the glamping accommodations fluctuate depending on the season and date, but Alder tents start at around $200 per night.
