Long known as the wilderness playground of North America, Waterton Lakes National Park got an unexpected plug from a late night talk show host.
David Letterman made mention of the southwestern Alberta park in an interview with “Bridesmaids” and “Gilmore Girls” star Melissa McCarthy on his Monday (June 24) program, canoe.ca reported.
“When you go to Montana, you gotta go north to Glacier, “ Letterman said during his talk show.
“And then, dip up into Waterton International Peace Park, it’s the Canadian part of Glacier National Park. It’s stunning.”
McCarthy was speaking about hiring an RV and driving home to L.A. from a recent movie shoot in Niagara Falls.
Parks Canada spokesperson Doreen McGillis said she was thrilled about the mention.
“I’m thrilled that it made it on ‘Letterman,’ and that he’s been here and thought of it enough to mention it,” she said.

Meanwhile, Waterton is almost back to normal after recent flooding.
McGillis said all of the campgrounds are open, and with the exception of the Akamina Parkway, all roads have been re-opened.
She said visitors should visit the park’s website for up to the date information, as some hiking trails remain washed out.
