Despite smartphones, Wi-Fi and tablets, camping is becoming more and more popular than ever before.

The increase is having a direct impact around Lincoln, Neb., according to 1011Now.com.

Officials at Branched Oak Park didn’t have exact numbers, but said they started getting booked out for the whole summer about two to three years ago.

They have reservations that can be made months and up to a year in advance. But they also have first come, first serve spots that they hold for “day of campers.”

Most people though get to the park on Wednesday or Thursday to put a tent or something in the first come, first serve spot so that they can get one for the weekend.

Branched Oak said this year seems to be a little more hectic than years past. Campers are starting to notice.

“It’s getting crazy, it’s getting wild.” said Connie Hummel, who got her first camper nine years ago.

She said that three years ago tons of families started packing the parks making it harder for her to find a spot.

“Oh yeah online, you can be booking one spot and by the time you hit that button it can be gone,” said Hummel.
