Jack Davis at Shamrock Park.

At age 78, Jack Davis is retiring after a long career in retail and managing three campgrounds in Berrien Springs, Mich., but don’t expect him to stop working. Davis plans to stay busy and still work on a part-time basis.

“I will work part-time here and there. I don’t want to be tied down,” Davis said last week during a break from his duties at the park.

According to The Herald-Palladium, he and his wife, Pat, already have moved from the manager’s house at the park into a new home in the village. He’ll continue to work at the campground with new manager Rich Camacho until late November.

Davis has spent the last 10 1/2 years as the manager of the Shamrock Park campground. It is located on the St. Joseph River just south of the Berrien Springs M-139 bridge and is owned by the village of Berrien Springs.

Davis and his wife owned the Pennellwood Resort on Lake Chapin in the 1990s and previously managed the Tabor Farm Resort in Sodus. He also owned a variety store in downtown Berrien Springs and was the recreation director for the Greater Berrien Springs Recreation Department in the past.
