Salem Township in Allegan County, Mich., has been awarded an $800,000 grant to fund two tornado shelters and a warning siren that will be placed in Sandy Pines Campground Resort, MLive.com reported.

Through collaboration with FEMA, the Michigan State Police Hazard Mitigation Division and the Allegan County Emergency Management Division, a threat assessment was done in Salem Township and a plan was developed by Allegan County.

The warning systems will provide early warning for severe weather events. The shelters are engineered to resist an EF-4 tornado, which produces 250 mph winds.
