Michael Scheinman has been appointed CEO of Campspot, effective immediately, according to a press release.
A reservation and management software provider, Campspot is an online marketplace for RV resorts, family campgrounds, cabins, glamping options, and more.
Developed by campground owners, Campspot officially launched in 2015 with a goal to elevate the outdoor industry through technology, providing campgrounds with tools to better manage bookings and grow revenue. In 2020, it rolled out its public booking platform, allowing travelers to search and book thousands of campgrounds, noted the release.
In his position as CEO, Scheinman will focus on growing Campspot’s user and supplier base, while continuing to enhance the site’s products, features, and functionality. Scheinman succeeds Campspot founder Caleb Hartung, who will remain active as an advisor and board director while devoting increased time to his other ventures.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Campspot team at what is a tremendously exciting time for the company and the camping industry as a whole,” said Scheinman. “The past year has introduced millions of new campers to the outdoors; with 2021 shaping up to be an even bigger year, we believe we’re in a great position to reduce friction for travelers and campground owners and make these experiences more accessible.”
An executive with more than 10 years in the travel industry, Scheinman brings a breadth of experience in e-commerce, technology, and corporate strategy. Prior to joining Campspot, Scheinman headed up Orbitz and CheapTickets, two portfolio brands of online travel giant Expedia Group. Prior, he served as general manager for the lodging division at Hotwire, another of the group’s brands. He has also held leadership positions in hotel partnerships, product management, marketing, and business operations. Scheinman holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and an undergraduate degree from Cornell University, where he studied Hotel Administration.
Campspot, a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based company, which also has development offices in Denver, Colo., and Chicago, Ill., was founded in 2015 with the intent to provide a simple, modern online booking experience serving campers and campgrounds. Since the initial software was launched, it has processed hundreds of millions of searches and millions of bookings, noted the release.
