South Mississippi is no stranger to wind and rain, but this weekend’s weather left picking up the pieces after what it’s calling a night it never saw coming, according to WDAM.
“We flood a little bit every once in a while, but nothing like this,” said Don Mathis, Hidden Springs general manager. “This was unbelievable.”
Walthall County Emergency Management reported about 11 inches of rain in the area before Saturday’s (Jan. 10) flooding.
Hidden Springs floods when the nearby Bogue Chitto River is at 15 feet.
Hidden Springs remains open for business as it tries to repair buildings and recover damaged furniture.
“Washing out all the buildings and getting them ready,” Mathis said. “Now, the cleaning crew is going behind them and sanitizing them and making sure there’s no germs from the river.
