Campgrounds in Crawford County (Missouri) are getting back to business after recent historic flooding sent campers packing as water levels rose, according to KSDK.
Huzzah Valley Resort in Steelville was among the popular spots forced to close for extensive cleanup after flash flooding hit the area. Just a week later, first-time visitors might not even know the grounds were underwater.
“We’re kind of in recovery mode,” said Corey Cottrell, part-owner of Huzzah Valley Resort.
“It has been kind of a hill to climb, and we are getting to the top, and we’re going to make it. It’s just going to take time…the campsites, there’s a lot of sand and gravel that’s been displaced,” Cottrell said.
Crews worked to re-gravel RV pads and driveways throughout the resort, regrading every site after the flood. The resort’s shop was bustling with activity — a sign of how far things had come since the first floor was underwater just days earlier.
