Visitors to Maryland’s Worcester County may soon have one more option when it comes to finding a place to stay.
Representatives for a proposed campground met with planners to discuss the 296-lot facility and the adjoining recreation center in Snow Hill, according to delmarvanow.com.
When completed, the membership campground will be open for seven months a year – closing for the winter – and campers, RVs and cabins will be connected to cable TV, electricity and water and sewer on each of the lots, said Mark Cropper, the attorney representing the owner, Logtown Road LLC.
The recreational facility – which will require a different membership – will be open year-round, and will provide an outdoor pool, athletic courts, weight rooms and field space to residents in the north end of Worcester County.
County planners were pleased with the site plan, which incorporates conditions and requests from nearby property owners including:

  • The campground will be screened on all sides.
  • Have only one entrance.
  • Field lighting will not be used late at night.
  • Vehicles cannot be more than 10 years old.
    Sounds Good But…
    However, several members of the planning commission and county staff were concerned about a lack of open space within the campground, provisions for membership and the requirements that the only camping vehicles to be used on site had to be bought through the campground.
    “Buying a camper to be a member took me back a little bit,” said planning commissioner Jeanne Lynch.
    Planners also suggested creating more open spaces for users who did not want to get a second membership for the recreation center.
    “It seems to me that if people wanted to have a picnic or a block party, they would have nowhere to do it,” Lynch said.
    Representatives from the campground pointed out that there were ponds for kayaking and fishing in the property and space along the banks for any number of outdoor activities.
    County staff warned that membership conditions concerning membership and use of plots would have to be written in such a way that does not lead to subleasing or a co-op. Cropper said membership terms and rules had not been finalized, but added that time shares would not be allowed.
    The campground will be served by the same wastewater treatment plant as the recreational center and the adjacent golf course. However, utilities will be shut off to the lots in the winter to prevent anyone from using them for year-round housing.
    The final site plan will go before the planning commission for approval later this year.
    The proposed site is located in the Delmarva peninsula, 10 miles north of the Virginia state line.
