Pine Creek Motel and Campgrounds, located at 29 Route 6 in the heart of Galeton, Pa., will soon be up and running after almost four years of vacancy, according to the Free Press-Courier.
New owner and Connecticut transplant Chris Gaudio will reopen the refurbished motel, campground and restaurant as soon as current social distancing rules are lifted; Scoops Ice Cream Shop is already open for business.
“This property has a lot of potential,” Gaudio said. “It has pretty much everything. I was looking around for exactly this kind of set up, and this property actually determined my location.”
Gaudio, who has previously worked in related industries, purchased the property in 2019. He has spent a year rehabbing every part of the property, which was formerly known as the Ox Yoke Inn.
The motel boasts 28 rooms and six cabins, while the campground offers more than 20 campsites, as well as one RV for rent. The campground, which provides complete hook-ups, is directly on Pine Creek.
General Manager Shannon McCall is hopeful that camping restrictions will be lifted soon.
“We’re following the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association’s guidelines, but we’re ready to go,” she said. (Pennsylvania’s governor is allowing campgrounds to open beginning Friday, May 1)
Gaudio and McCall have already hired a staff of six, including a caretaker who lives on the property.
The Tavern at Pine Creek, the renovated restaurant on the property, will serve “pub food, but also classic American fare and full dinners,” said McCall. The banquet room, with panoramic windows overlooking the creek, has a capacity of 50-60 people, and the bar area has been restored to its former glory.
Scoops Ice Cream Shop is currently open, serving from the take-out window to respect social distancing. Scoops sells Perry’s ice cream, sundaes, floats and other sweets, as well as burgers and snacks.
