One Phase of renovations is now complete and Sleepy Hollow Campground in Grantsville, Md., is open once again, according to The Garrett County Republican.
Angela and Stacey Shunk are the current owners, both retired from the Air Force. They have four small children and live in Savannah, Ga., but also spend a lot of time in Grantsville tending to the campground.
Angela Shunk explained that she is a Grantsville native.
“My grandparents, Doc and Grace Shunk, owned a 250-acre farm where the campground is,” she explained. “The farm was actually the birthplace of my grandmother. They built the campground in 1964 due to a shortage of campsites at New Germany State Park, which borders the farm/campground.”
Renovations began in 2020, with Phase 1 being completed in 2021. This included new plumbing in the bathhouse (which had original plumbing and fixtures), all new electrical work for the entire property, removal of overgrown landscaping and old trees, creating proper RV sites and more.
Plans are to continue renovations and add more amenities, larger RV sites and also a few cabins.
