Legacy Resorts of Houston, Texas, has developed a new $5 million Yogi Bear Jellystone Camp-Resort at Lake Pelahatchie in Mississippi that is slated to open Memorial Day weekend, according to wlbt.net.
The new park was built on a 200-acre site and features 150 recreational vehicle camping pads with full utilities, 25 tent sites and 10 cabins. The campsites rent from $19 to $39 a night and there will also be an outdoor theater, an 18-hole miniature golf course, water park and splashpark and paddle boats to be used on Lake Pelahatchie.
The site used to be a county park with only 12 RV sites, but it was sold to Legacy Resorts, which owns a network of RV parks and campgrounds, three of which are Yogi Bear Jellystone Camp-Resorts.
Pelahatchie Mayor Knox Ross, who was instrumental in spurring development of the new park, believes it will be a big hit. He noted that investor Jeff Perrett, representing Legacy, was looking at a potential site south of Jackson, Miss. “Somebody talked to people in Rankin County,” he said. “They talked to me to see if the city would be interested in doing it. They talked to Leisure Systems, who were the Yogi Bear franchise. They came and looked at it and said it was a perfect fit.”
