A groundbreaking was held at the new Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Golden Valley in Bostic, N.C.

Historic Camp Golden Valley in Bostic, N.C., a former Girl Scout camp for almost 40 years, is receiving re-energized life as a member of Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort family.

According to a press release, built in 1969 by the Pioneer Girl Scouts, Camp Golden Valley played host to thousands of Girl Scouts throughout the region and is of particular nostalgic importance to many residents of Rutherford County, N.C., where the camp is located. Past campers will surely remember fond memories of campfires, canoe rides on the lake and the camp’s famous “Treetop” cabins.

When the Girl Scouts of America put the camp up for sale, many locals were worried what would become of the iconic camp. Tim Ferris, of Blue Ridge Distilling Co., who grew up in Golden Valley, was determined to save it.

“When we bought the camp, we weren’t sure what we were going to do with it,” said Ferris. “I just knew I didn’t want to see it become another subdivision.”

Ferris purchased the property in hopes of preserving the camp and using it as an entertainment venue to complement his whiskey distillery operation. Eventually, Ferris decided the camp needed to remain true to its original purpose as a family-friendly destination for more generations to enjoy.

Earlier this year, Ferris partnered with Northgate Golden Valley LLC to revitalize the camp. Inspired by the beauty of the Golden Valley area and the rustic nature of the camp, Northgate knew the property was special.

Treetop cabins are a unique part of Nothgate Resorts’ new Jellystone.

“We are committed to preserving the history and integrity of the camp,” said Zach Bossenbroek, CEO of Northgate Resorts. “There’s something magical about this camp that’s hard to explain, but you feel it the moment you arrive. We don’t want to lose that.”

Northgate plans to keep all existing camp structures and remodel them for continued enjoyment by guests, both new and old. As a nostalgic perk, former campers can book the same “Treetop” cabin they stayed in as a child, while new guests can experience the thrill of sleeping among the trees, an experience that will stay with them for the rest of their life.

Northgate will operate the park as Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Golden Valley, set to open to the public in June 2018. The camp will begin taking reservations as early as January 2018.

In addition to the original Girl Scout cabins, there will be RV Sites, “Glamping” tents, rustic tent sites and luxury cabins that provide all the comforts of home. Of course no camping trip is complete without campfires and s’mores, which is a nightly staple and one of Yogi Bear’s™ favorite activities!

Tucked away at the base of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and conveniently located between Asheville and Charlotte, the picturesque 650-plus acre camp will instantly immerse guests in the scenic and bucolic beauty surrounding the area. With a focus on family fun and affordable family vacations, campers can enjoy an unparalleled lineup of amenities such as equestrian facilities and trails, canoeing/kayaking in the private lake, mountain bike trails, activity pool and multi-level water play structure, fishing, a variety of sports and much more.

“We are very passionate about this project. The camp and the entire Golden Valley area is a true quintessential camping destination,” commented Bossenbroek at the recent groundbreaking. “I think people will fall in love with the area. I predict it will quickly become one of the top five campgrounds in the nation.”
