The 2022 Ohio Campground Owners Association (OCOA) Fall Conference and Campground Tour was be held from Oct. 25-26 at the newly renovated Sawmill Creek by Cedar Point Resorts in Huron, Ohio, according to OCOA’s Executive Director Kristy Smith.
“We had 85 attendees representing about 40 campgrounds in attendance,” she noted. “The event was sponsored by: Gold Sponsor – CampLife; Silver Sponsor – Henley Graphic Communications; and Bronze Sponsor – Silver-top Manufacturing Co. Inc.”
Each year, the OCOA Fall Conference is held in a different region of the state. During the conference, attendees spend time visiting several campgrounds in that region during campground tours. This year’s conference was hosted by the Northwest District and, in particular, was planned by Jeff Hoffman, of Sandusky/Bayshore KOA in Sandusky, Ohio.
Upon arrival on Tuesday (Oct. 25) evening, attendees had dinner and then held an informal group discussion on industry hot topics including store items, bed bug prevention and treatment, security systems, most popular activities and events, Ohio Department of Health rules and inconsistencies, the proposed National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds’ voluntary standards, insurance rate increases, ice vendors, credit card fees and Ohio Campers Magazine back cover bidding options.
Attendees visited the following campgrounds on Wednesday (Oct. 26): Gotta Getaway RV Park (Bellevue); Leafy Oaks Campground (Clyde); Crystal Rock Campground (Sandusky); Cedar Point’s Lighthouse Point (Sandusky); and Sandusky/Bayshore KOA (Sandusky).
“Hosts opened their cabins stores, and other facilities to give us a behind-the-scenes tour and provided snacks and drinks throughout the day,” noted Smith.
Attendees had lunch on the Jackson Street Pier in historic downtown Sandusky with some time to walk the pier and make a quick visit to local shops.
The OCOA’s Spring Conference will take place March 3-4, 2023, at the Embassy Suites Columbus Airport. To learn more, click here.Â
